At the beginning of February Emma and Georgia, from the University of Surrey, joined us for a week of work experience. They are both studying Vet Medicine and are half way through their 5-year course. We took the opportunity to catch up with them on the final day of their work experience to find out what they had learnt and how they had found the week.

Why did you want to come on work experience at Dignity?
After graduation I would like to work as a small animal Vet. Euthanasia is a common occurrence within small animal practice and therefore I wanted to further understand the cremation process/options so I can correctly advise my future clients.
What has been the highlight of your time here at Dignity?
I have learnt a lot from my placement here, however the highlight would be the staff. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and were really helpful in answering any questions I had.
Can you tell us one fascinating fact about Dignity that you didn’t know before?
The cremators say a short prayer to every animal before they are cremated. They make sure to include the animals name too which made it personal. I thought this was a lovely thing to do!
Did anything surprise you?
The large number of different options and products that can be offered for the client, there really is something for everyone.
If you could sum up Dignity Pet Crematorium in one sentence – what would you say?

Why did you want to come on work experience at Dignity?
Part of the placement requirement is veterinary public health. I felt this would be the most useful option as the after life process is so integral in understanding the client-pet relationship.
What has been the highlight of your time here at Dignity?
Hard to choose! Being able to watch the entire process of an attended service was really insightful and special.
Can you tell us one fascinating fact about Dignity that you didn’t know before?
