For many owners, it can be extremely difficult to leave their pet following their death. Some people worry about the way their pet will be treated, while others simply cannot bear to be parted from their faithful companion. Whatever the reason, we understand that feeling which is why we offer an Attended Pet Cremation Service.
We often get questions about what exactly our Attended Pet Cremation Service involves. Here we’re going to answer some of those questions.
What is an Attended Pet Cremation Service?
Just as it sounds, our Attended service allows you to be present at your pet’s cremation. You will be given some time to say goodbye to your pet in one of our Farewell Rooms, before joining them at the cremation chamber within our Victorian brick kiln. Once at the kiln you can choose to watch as your pet is gently placed into the chamber, or turn away and simply be present. You will hear the cremation technician say a short prayer as the cremation begins.
Cremation times vary depending on the pet, so we will usually give you an appointment time to return to Dignity to collect their ashes – usually around 4 hours later. Our Attended service includes Same Day ashes return, and we can provide you with information about the local area if you would like to find something to do while you wait.
Why do people choose an Attended service?
There are many different reasons people choose to be present at the cremation of their pet. This could be down to religious beliefs, or simply because they don’t want to leave their side. Cremation Manager Jaime says “The main reason clients choose an Attended service is because they want to be with their pet right up to the last moment. I think a small percentage of people also want to confirm that their pet will be cremated on their own when placed in the unit.”
“I like showing and explaining the way we do cremations here at Dignity and reassuring owners that we will look after their beloved pet upon their final journey. Sometimes, after we place the pet in the cremation chamber, people let us know a bit more about themselves and their pet, which helps us connect a bit more with the pet and their family.”
What’s included in an Attended Pet Cremation Service?
An Attended cremation service costs £60 on top of the cost of your pet’s individual cremation. This includes:
- A chance to say a final goodbye in one of our Farewell Rooms
- Attendance as your pet is placed into the chamber for cremation
- Priority processing of your pet’s ashes for return the same day (usually, there are occasional exceptions)
- Same Day return of your pets ashes
