We are proud to share that Dignity has been featured in a recent book release, after the author found themselves having to use our services. Soulcat is a collection of anecdotes and stories written by Amy Vaughan-Spencer. The memoir was collated in memory of Amy’s cat Molly. The pair shared a special bond over her lifetime that is shared through the book. When Molly passed, she came into our care here at Dignity. Amy shares her experience of our services in her heartfelt tale.
“My beloved cat Molly passed away with no forewarning. She had been my affectionate and loyal companion for nine happy years, and I was completely unprepared for her sudden death. In need of an outlet for my grief, I sat down to write her a letter.
That letter evolved into a published book – Soulcat – the story of Molly’s life, told initially from my perspective and then from her own.
On the fateful day of her passing, I was living in London. Molly wasn’t registered with the local vet, but I called them for advice. The sympathetic receptionist said they could arrange her cremation, although she couldn’t tell me where it would take place. A quick Google search brought up horror stories of treasured pets carelessly burned en mass, the returned ashes a mix of departed animals, at best.
I called my mum in Surrey, whose cat Flora had passed away a few years earlier. Her vet had sent Flora’s remains to Dignity Pet Crematorium. I looked them up online and instantly knew it was the right place to take Molly for a respectful and dignified final goodbye.
My experience with Dignity was second to none, and I wrote about it in Soulcat. While editing the book I reached out to Kevin, Dignity’s owner, to ensure I had all my facts straight and to check he was happy with what I had written about his crematorium. Kevin was very supportive of my project and provided me with lots of useful information about pet cremation.
He is clearly very passionate about what he does and it shines through, from Dignity’s beautifully kept grounds, to the kind and caring staff.”
Copies of Soul cat will available to purchase through the Dignity website here and you can read more about Amy and Molly’s story here.
