Organising a funeral service
At Dignity Pet Crematorium we have always believed that we should be there to tailor our service to your needs. Whilst many families bring their pets to us and have their own private goodbyes in our Farewell Room, some people prefer a more structured religious or non-religious goodbye.
Over the years we have been touched by the many different ways people have given their pets a final farewell including Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Buddhist and other non-religious services that have taken place in our grounds.
Different options
We now work with several Religious and Non-Religious Celebrants to help you organise a pet funeral or remembrance service that is right for you and your pet.
Please note that although we ask you to contact the celebrant directly to make the final arrangements it is very important that you let us know you would like a remembrance service so that we can coordinate everything for you.
Please have a look below at some celebrants we recommend.

Hello to you, my name is Berni from Touch of Class Celebrant. I am a fully certified Civil Celebrant, completing my training and passing with distinction through (APC) the Acadamy of Professional Celebrants of which I am very proud of. I deliver bespoke ceremonies tailored to your needs. Your Love, Your words, Your memories. I have conducted many funerals and I am truly passionate about delivering an exceptional service for you, as if it were you talking. I wanted to incorporate Pet memorials into my service as I felt there was not a lot being offered. We treasure our pets, they are family.
A friend of mine’s dog passed away, she had him just over 17 years and she was truly heartbroken. She asked if I would conduct a service for Max. Of course I agreed and it was truly beautiful. From then on, I offered Pet memorials as a service.
Carrying out a pet funeral is no different from a human one. Celebrate your Pet’s life with a ceremony tailored to capture their unique spirit and the joy they brought into your life.
Creating a meaningful ceremony that reflects your love and memories, providing you comfort and closure. Choosing me to conduct this service you can trust in the professionalism and respect dedicated to honouring your beloved pet.

Hannah Jackson-McCamley is an experienced celebrant, specialising in personalised services that truly reflect the one you love. Hannah aims to ensure that your loved one is honoured in an appropriate manner and will spend time with you if you like, to ensure that the service is as unique as your companion.
Hannah believes we share our lives with our animals and their death can be as significant as that of any human we have cared for. Hannah fondly remembers the special ceremonies that her parents devised to honour their many much loved pets when she was a child and thinks that it is important to pay tribute and say goodbye as we endeavour to heal.
Hannah’s love of literature and music means she encourages readings and songs and is also happy to incorporate religion and spirituality if it offers comfort to those bereaved.
A pet is not a pet but a member of the family. Hannah hopes to inspire you to honour them as such.

Heartsease Pet Ceremonies was started by Hilary Kear, a trained ceremony officiant who was asked to conduct a funeral for a friend’s beloved dog. It prompted her to look into what services were available to other pet owners who were mourning the loss of their pet. She discovered that there were no structured services for people to choose from and so she decided to start Heartsease for those owners who might find such a service comforting. Hilary chose the name “Heartsease” after the Heartsease flower which is a type of pansy. It is associated with peacefulness, serenity and remembrance which represent the service being provided.
Hilary says “Many people consider their pets as members of the family, love them dearly and are profoundly distressed by their deaths. Whether or not you have a religious faith, holding some kind of funeral or farewell ceremony to acknowledge your loss and celebrate the life of your pet can help you find comfort and peace.”
To find out more about the services Hilary offers, contact her either by email at heartseasepetceremonies@gmail.com, via her Facebook page or phone 07964 942018.
If you would like a printed order of service then this can be provided for a small additional cost. It will include any hymns, readings and poems as well as a photograph of your pet.
If you are contacting Hilary by email and want to arrange a booking then please complete the short questionnaire in the downloadable pdf as it will help Hilary to tailor a service for you.
Knight Ceremonies was founded by Jenny Knight, an Independent Celebrant based in Camberley, a short distance from Dignity Pet Crematorium. Jenny is professionally trained and a member of the Fellowship of Independent Celebrants (FOIC).
Jenny says “As a pet owner, you will know that they are an essential part of our families, and so when our beloved animal sadly passes away, there becomes a great gap in our lives.
This could be the first time our children experience loss and mourning, but families are turning this into a very therapeutic process for the next generation; with guidance, arranging the funeral for their beloved companion.
As adults, the loss of a pet is a very significant event in our lives and is something that we prefer to keep from our thoughts. While they are with us, we do our utmost to enhance their quality of life, and a proper funeral is a befitting next step for us to take on their behalf.
I can help you by creating a service which may include prayers or poetry, readings and even symbolic rituals (planting a tree, lighting a candle or installing a commemorative sculpture). I am happy to conduct the funeral ceremony, and/or a blessing at your home for the commemorative rituals.
I offer a free consultation, where we can discuss your requirements and ensure that your dear companion is given a memorable and dignified ceremony.

My aim is to help you through this difficult time, to offer you the support you need, suggestions if required, to ensure we give the pet you and your family have loved, the best ‘farewell’ we can give them. This will be done with dignity and love.
These seem like dark days but we look to celebrate the life of your beloved pet, whom you have lost and in doing so help you to recall the happy times you spent together and the memories that were made, so that they live on.
I am a family person, married with 3 grown up children, with pets of our own and a love for wildlife.
Doing a pet funeral is no different from a human one. We are celebrating a life which has been loved and will be very much missed. Your ‘farewell ceremony’ will be bespoke and personal and I am happy to provide music to accompany your ceremony.
I am Celebrant trained through ‘The Fellowship of Independent Celebrants’ (F.O.I.C.) of which I am a member. Why am I a Celebrant? Because I like to make a difference. I will work with you to produce a befitting farewell ceremony.

“Hi, I’m Kerry Chapman originally from Yorkshire, born in Sheffield and now living in Hampshire with my other half, Jonah (Andrew to his mum!) and our now slightly ancient Patterdale terrier, Archie. I love travelling, fitness and being outdoors.
I am a great advocate of the great outdoors being beneficial for mindfulness and wellbeing and it’s my happy place. Luckily Archie feels the same and loves to be out walking with us and taking trips in our camper van, Monty. I feel lucky to have moved around a fair bit in places I’ve lived, with jobs I’ve done through my life and career. Maybe comes from being a lorry drivers’ daughter! I am a bit of a workaholic and currently work as an Area Manager for a training provider, supporting people to gain apprenticeships in the Hospitality sector. Alongside this I am also a Celebrant.
I trained with International College of Professional Celebrants (ICPC) and love to put that learning into practice, in supporting others to plan and create the send-off / ceremony they would like, whether for themselves, a family member, friend or a beloved pet. Growing up I remember creating services for my hamsters and rabbits and asking my parents to make sure we buried them properly with markers made and words said. Our family dog, Barney was such a character and loved by all sorts of people.
We can work together to be sure that we get to know each other and talk about your pet to make sure that we get the right style and tone that you would like for the ceremony. There may be some really personal elements that you would like to include, such as stories, memories and key events that capture the essence of the pet you love. You might want to contribute to the ceremony yourself and you may want the ceremony to be a real celebration of your pet’s life. A life lived well is something to celebrate, even as we mourn the fact that it is over. We can create ceremonies for a funeral (celebration of life), the scattering of ashes, for interment and for memorial services.”

“Here to bring joy to celebrations of life & love”
We are very lucky to be located near the Parish of Crondall & Ewshot where the lovely Rev’d Tara Hellings is located. Rev’d Tara is an animal lover who has had to use our service herself over the years. She is able, subject to prior commitments, to carry out a short service and/or prayers.
Please contact her directly via her Parish Page http://www.assm.org.uk/welcome.htm
Sandy is a Civil Celebrant based in South West London. She is happy to travel further to accommodate the needs of the families she works with.
Sandy says “For many of us the loss and the emotions we feel when loosing a pet is very similar to that of loosing a loved one. Our pets become so entwined in our daily lives that we become dependent on them for comfort and support.
So to loose a pet is very difficult. People now choose to remember their pets in different ways and one of them is to hold a remembrance service a gathering of loved ones to join you in saying goodbye.
I would be honoured to be part of this and would work with you to put together a suitable memorial service so that you can say goodbye in a way that feels right for you.
This could be in your own garden, or a park or at Dignity Pet Crematorium.”

“Hello, I’m Sharon and I live in Binfield, Berkshire with my husband David. We have two sons and a beautiful, kind cocker spaniel called Ozzie. A few months a go I undertook a qualification and trained with the International College of Professional Celebrants (ICPC) and haven’t looked back since.
It felt like a vocation for me after several years in corporate telecoms, and now I’m working in a job that’s a privilege, supporting families and friends in delivering ceremonies that are all about the love that they have for the person they’ve lost through death.
When I was approached by Dignity Pet Crematorium through referral, it was obvious to me that the service of a celebrant following the death of a beloved pet would play such an important role in helping with the tremendous amount of grief felt when this happens – I should know, over the years I’ve lost dogs, cats and horses, all of which I’ve had cremated, and who now sit proudly on a shelf as I couldn’t bear to part with them. I never felt that I had closure enough to do that. But if, at that those times, I could’ve had a service that expressed how I felt, and about the joy that the pet gave me, and how sad I felt at losing them, then perhaps it would’ve been a little easier, a celebration of their life rather than the sadness of my loss.
I feel with my experience as a celebrant, and as someone who really understands the sea of emotion we feel around losing something we truly love, I can help support you with a bespoke service to say goodbye. There isn’t a rule book, it’s whatever you need it to be.”

Richard is a locally based, fully trained Independent Celebrant and a member of the Fellowship of Independent Celebrants (FOIC), his motivation is to always deliver a personalised and heartfelt ceremony for your companion.
Richard will work with you and take time to learn about your pet, its character, did they live a full life, who was it closest to, what were its favourite things to do and how did it impact on your life? and to decide if you would like to include any poems, symbolic rituals or readings etc.
Richard believes that as our pets have offered us relationships similar to those that we have with members of our family providing companionship, loyalty, comfort, adventure and so much more. It’s totally understandable that when that family member passes away, we feel that loss just like any other and therefore he knows how important it is to create a ceremony that is a celebration of life for you to say a true farewell to your beloved pet.
Richard is a family man blessed with Grandchildren and also an active Grand ‘paw’ent to a lovely Red Fox Lab called Gibbs who can do no wrong (In his eyes that is!)
Any service that Richard conducts, he deems it ‘a privilege to honour the memory of your beloved pet and create a ceremony that is personalised, professional and respectful to say your final farewell’.
