After recently partnering with Forget Me Not Petcare, a mobile veterinary practice providing home euthanasia services in the Fleet area, we spoke with Nancy Montoya, their owner and lead veterinary surgeon, to explore what makes Forget Me Not Petcare unique.
Tell us a little bit about you and your team.
Forget Me Not Petcare is an independently run business that I recently started in Fleet. Born and raised in Los Angeles, I came over to the UK to study Veterinary Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College and qualified in 2017. While studying, I fell in love with the UK and decided to stay and settle in Fleet, Hampshire. I have spent 3 years in general practice and the last 4 years working as an emergency out-of-hours vet in Surrey. While working out-of-hours, I saw the essential need to provide a service of bringing gentle at home euthanasia to our beloved pets when they need it most. My passion for animal welfare and providing the best possible care has been the driving force throughout my career and is the main motivation for starting Forget Me Not Petcare.
“We are an independent practice who are available for home visits 24/7.”
What services do you offer?
I provide a gentle at home euthanasia service for pets in the Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire area. Once an appointment has been made, I will come to your home and talk you through the process. I ensure that there is plenty of time for our visit so that you and your pet feel comfortable with me visiting. I will spend the first few minutes saying hello and making a fuss of your pet. I will then give a mild sedative injection into the muscle which takes around 10 minutes, causing your pet to fall into a deep sleep. When you are ready, I will then give a second painless anaesthetic injection, that will allow your pet to drift into a deeper sleep that they will not wake up from. Once your pet has passed away, you will have as much time as you need to say your final goodbyes.
How long has your practice been open?
We are a brand-new mobile practice and we opened our doors on June 1st, 2024. I have also been in the veterinary industry for 10+ years before starting Forget Me Not Petcare.
What’s unique about your Veterinary Practice?
We are an independent practice who is available for home visits 24/7. We will always make sure the process is peaceful and comfortable for both pet and owner.
What is your favourite part of your job?
Making sure pets can pass away peaceful at home while at the same time being there for their owners during this most difficult time. It is important to me that pets get to be in the comfort of their own home and surrounded by family when it is their time to say goodbye.
