We lost our very special gorgeous girl Mollie, a chocolate lab, when she was a 14 years old. When she was a puppy, she loved to eat our kitchen!! She also loved digging in the garden and doing a disappearing act in the hedge. She loved trips to the beach and also going on lovely long walks with us, especially when we went away in the caravan, as she took up all the bed!! She was totally bonkers her whole life.
She suffered with gastric problems and had to be on special food, she had cancer when she was five, but battled through and recovered. As she got older, she was on lots of medication for her arthritis, blood pressure, thyroid to mention but a few. Mollie had early onset dementia in the last few months of her life, which was challenging but she never gave up and still enjoyed her walks. She was an amazing dog, very loving and great company, wherever we were, she was too.
The reason for getting her was that I had depression when my parents died and she gave me a purpose. Mollie never knew how much she helped me and my husband. She was always there to greet you with a lovely “hello” in the morning and when you came home, whether you had been gone 5 minutes or an hour, her tail was wagging and she could not wait for a hug… or possibly her dinner!!
We have so many amazing memories and photos of her. Our vets were her second home and she loved going in just to say hi. Because of Mollie I started my own business; dog walking, day care and boarding called Mollie Moo’s. When she was younger, she used to come out with me and loved running around with the other dogs.
The day she passed away was the most difficult decision we had to make. My head was telling me it was the right thing to do but my heart was screaming “Don’t let her go”. We were both with her when she passed and our vet Michael was amazing. We are totally lost and heartbroken without her.
Our friends and the vets recommend Dignity. They collected Mollie and we had a phone call from them to say she had arrived and that they would take great care of her. We had her cremated and also had some of her fur. We chose a cocoa bean urn and a tea light holder with some of her ashes in too. We found a very difficult time made easier by Dignity because they were so understanding and helpful.
I have had a tattoo on my arm with her name and dates, and decided that I would also have some of her ashes in there, so that she will always be with me.
