Like many people who are moving house, David decided to use our exhumation service because he didn’t want his cat Ella to be left behind. There’s always the worry of new residents digging up the garden but mostly it just doesn’t feel right to leave an important part of your family.
Ella was a rescue from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and although David had always preferred dogs, he soon grew fond of little Ella. When they rescued her, she was already eight or nine years old but luckily, they managed to give her the love she deserved for another two years of her life.
When Ella passed away, David’s vet recommended us at Dignity. Him and his wife decided that they wanted to bury Ella in the garden and got in touch with us to order a suitable coffin. A year and a half later, when they decided to move, David contacted us once more about our exhumation service. David said “I completed an online form specifically for exhumation on the Dignity website which was really easy to use and gave Dignity important information such as how long Ella had been buried for and the depth of the burial. Kevin, the owner, got in touch with me directly to explain how the service works and to arrange a time for the uplifting of Ella. Kevin was brilliant and the whole service was really well done, from start to finish.”
“On the day of the exhumation, there were high winds of up to 60mph so I spoke to Kevin and he was happy to postpone. Nothing was too much trouble to him and the team. He was very respectful and talked me through every step – he described exactly how Ella looked to me and gave me the option of seeing her for one last time.
One thing that really impressed me was that we originally picked a more expensive casket but once we explained that we wanted Ella’s ashes to stay inside, Kevin suggested an indoor wooden casket instead which was less expensive – something you don’t usually experience with business owners today! It was a fitting tribute to Ella as she wasn’t much of an outdoor cat and hated the rain.
Both times I’ve found Dignity to be respectful and understanding. I now live in Worthing but would happily travel to use them again. A great company.”
